"Print" can mean a lot these days: books, magazines, brochures, postcards, flags, packaging, or even the outside of a magnetic levitation train.

Dominican University of California
As the senior graphic designer at Dominican University, I created a new visual branding approach using the existing "portal" logo.
Using the same shape, but inverted as a shield at various angles, I inforced a consistant visual appraoch to all of the materials printed by the university, including such things as the campus map, recruiting brochures, newspaper and bus advertising, course schedules, and on-campus posters.
The approach allowed for a drastically increased awareness of the institution resulting in a greater number of applications for study as well as increased attendance at public functions.
Additionally, I designed the campus map and the university's official flag.
TEA Annual/Directories

Themed Entertainment Association
As a member of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), I was twice approached to design their 80-page annual and directory, which includes dozens of articles written by TEA members.
The TEA is a non-profit group that connects organizations to the creators of themed attractions.
The new design and its crisp, open magazine approach allows the TEA to continue to expand and maintain its prominent place in the themed entertainment industry.

ZipRealty, Inc.
Working within the Marketing Department, I created a wide variety of printed materials while supporting various online needs.
Projects included collateral for potential clients, potential agents, existing employees and agents, as well as investors.
During my tenure at ZipRealty, we made many changes, not the least of which was a complete rebranding exercise in which we collaborated with Landor Associates. In the end, however, the company's board selected a visual rebrand that I created in-house.
Castles & Fortresses
packaging for book and figurines
Barnes and Noble
Working with the miniature manufacturer in China as well as Barnes and Noble, I directed the design of the figurines while designing the inset clear plastic container as well as the outside box.
The packaging includes an existing Castles & Fortresses book which I used as a backdrop to the figurines.
The product was featured prominently in Barnes and Noble retails stores.
Expo 2005 Linimo Train
train wrap
Expo 2005 Aichi
Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan's world's fair, held a contest to design the exteriors of the innovative "Linimo" magnetic levitation trains that would take visitors to the site outside Nagoya.
My design was selected as first place from entries from around the world. The design and subsequent award ceremony were widely shown on Japanese television and newspaper front pages.
The work, entitled "Nature's Colors," played off the exposition's theme "Nature's Wisdom." As the train is viewed from afar, the English text "EXPO 2005 AICHI" becomes visable. In the station, as the train approaches, the colors shift through a cycle of colors, referencing the colors and cycles of nature.
The Expo Book
magazine feature and book
Gordon Linden and
InPark Magazine
Working with author Gordon Linden and editor Judith Rubin, The Expo Book was originally published in six parts in InPark Magazine, an publication serving the themed entertainment industry. As the project's graphic designer, I also contributed original photography.
The book addresses all aspects of the complex and rewarding business of creating an outstanding and successful world expo – from seeking registration with the Bureau of International Expositions, to selecting a site and formulating a theme, through all the subsequent planning, financial, operations and development issues including the transition to post-use of the site.
An updated version in book form is currently being developed and will include a section written by myself on branding and visual identity at expos.
Across the Universe
brochure
Palace Press International
Palace Press International approached me to design their company promotional brochure. As a printer, publisher, and packager, they have a wide range of services, and consequently, audiences.
The company is primarily known for its Eastern spiritual publications but had recently published an art book on the fashion of Star Wars. Therefore, I chose to play off the space theme using more traditional iconography to organize the information and highlight the international scope of their services with a constellation "map" of their locations.
This flyer was designed to work as a stand-alone pieces as well as a trade magazine insert andt was printed in 5 colors with a spot UV coating.
VELCRO® Brand Product Packaging
packaging
Velcro USA Inc.
As the art and design manager for Velcro USA, I supervised two other graphic designers in completely redesigning the packaging for over 200 products.
In the decades preceding this design approach, various products were allowed to have drastically different designs, resulting in a watering down of the VELCRO® brand.
The new approach allows for sub-brands while emphasizing the overall VELCRO® brand. The system has a modular approach so that it includes many different package shapes and multiple language options.
It successfully allowed the company to maintain or increase its shelf space in nearly all retailers where a new, competing brand had sought to replace it.
